How to Install Tiles in your Shower

Ceramic Tile for Shower - Cosmos Flooring 323.936.2180

Ceramic tiles are a wonderful choice of material to use for your shower and bathroom. Give your shower a makeover with brand new ceramic tiles by following these steps:

  • After removing old tiles and the drywall, screw in your new water resistant panel’s back board into the wall studs.
  • Now you are ready to screw on a batten, which is a straight board that temporarily creates a level braces for your tiles.
  • Next mix the thinset and use a toothed trowel to spread it on the board. Keep the trowel just under a 45 degree angle to ensure the thinset is even.
  • Start placing a few tiles onto the batten board and move the tile back and forth to create a suction bond. After setting each tile, use plastic spacers to make sure your rows are even.
  • Once the full tiles are set, use a wet saw to cut remaining tiles to the dimensions you need and position them into place. Let the tiles dry for at least 10 hours before applying grout.
  • Make your grout mixture until it’s the consistency of toothpaste. Apply a small amount on a rubber float and fill in all the tile spaces. Clean the tiles of any grout residue before it hardens onto the tiles.
